In the first COGfx study, Study 1: Indoor Environmental Quality, the research team tested workers in a controlled lab environment. In the second, Study 2: Buildingomics, the team went from the lab to 10 buildings in the U.S. In the Global Buildings Study, the team will extend this research to buildings around the world.
The study will launch in 2018 with each building participating for one year. During this time, 10 office workers in each building will be provided a wearable device, have an environmental sensor at their desk, and complete surveys and cognitive tests using the ForHealth app. The study is the first of its kind to monitor buildings, and the office workers inside them, for this length of time.
The research team at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health will store and manage the raw data. No data on an individual participant or building will be shared outside of the Harvard team. Participants will be able to view their personal data from their wearable device and environmental sensor. De-identified data may also be shared with academic collaborators.
The study will launch with 10 buildings in China at the beginning of 2018. Recruitment for the remaining buildings is currently open. Contact the Harvard research team to get involved.
